How to Protect the Sanctity of South Carolina Marriages Just Like Jenny Sanford

Who would have ever thought that in the heart of the Bible Belt, South Carolina marriages suffer from one of the top ten divorce rates in the whole United States, according to the US Census Bureau.  How could a South Carolina marriage have a 50% higher rate of failure compared to states such as New York and Massachusetts?

Why Such a High Divorce Rate?

Some speculate that the tendency of Southern couples to marry young, coupled with a significantly lower ratio of income is a recipe for disaster.  Along with adultery, financial hardship and young marriages contribute to the high divorce records reported in Vital Statistics.

With the recent blow given by South Carolina’s governor, Mark Sanford, adultery has become a hot topic.  Just like Jenny Sanford, women everywhere want their day of reckoning whether it is in the eyes of God or buried in South Carolina court records.

Adultery Laws: Know Your Rights

According to South Carolina law, Chapter 15 of Title 16, Offenses against Morality and Decency, a person engaged in a South Carolina marriage who commits adultery is subject to one year in jail and a $100-$500 fine.  The chances that good ol’ boy Mark Sanford is slapped with a year in the pen?  Slim.  However, the fine may set an example for women everywhere who are suffering in a bad marriage or didn’t properly research their boyfriend’s or husband’s background.

Jenny Sanford Leads the Way in Protecting the Bonds of Matrimony

As Jenny Sanford stated in her recent press release on June 24, 2009, “I believe wholeheartedly in the sanctity, dignity and importance of the institution of marriage…I felt it was important to look my sons in the eyes and maintain my dignity, self-respect, and my basic sense of right and wrong.  I therefore asked my husband to leave two weeks ago.”

Women in adulterous South Carolina marriages are no longer remaining silent.  They want retribution.  In some cases, women take the matter into their own hands and privately investigate their significant other’s marriage history.
