Monogamy Gene to Work Against Infidelity

In: How to Prevent Cheating

Jude Law is just another actor who had joined the cheating bandwagon. His infidelity to his wife was featured on a lot of magazines and newspapers. And that had raised the life-long question once more as to why people end up cheating on their partners.

The truth is, cheating is not restricted to the rich and famous, the celebrities, and the people in power. Cheating happens to normal people as well. It really doesn’t matter how financially capable or popular you are. You will be caught cheating on your partner if you can’t resist the temptation.

Some people think that it is human nature to cheat. These people believe that the programming of people is to go forth and multiply and that humans never like monogamy and virginity at all. Therefore, whenever there’s an occasion to cheat, people almost always use that opportunity to do so.

However, anthropologists contradict that idea. They say that humans are not programmed to cheat at all. In fact, humans are part of only the 3% of all creatures that are pre-programmed to be monogamous. The human brain is built for bonding with one mate, and not to go out of his way to multiply.

And soon enough, scientist had discovered the so-called monogamy gene. This gene, when injected to a field rat, caused it to become more attached to its partner rather than mating and going away to look for yet another partner. The gene injected to the field rat was taken from its cousin the prairie rat. The prairie is known to be monogamous specie.

However, scientists were also quick to add that this isn’t the cure for cheating at all. The monogamy gene is associated to three more traits such as attachment, lust, and romance. Unfortunately, these three traits don’t necessarily work with each other. It is possible for a person to be strongly attached to a person while being romantically in love with another.

People cheat primarily because of the environment in which they live in. If they are currently unhappy with their relationship, they are almost bound to cheat in a way. So even if you have the monogamy gene injected in you, you will still end up cheating because the environment and your feelings could override the genes.

But the better news is that in America, there are a relatively low number of cheating partners. Americans simply work a little too hard that they have don’t time for almost anything else. They also have a lot of other concerns such as properties, businesses, and hobbies. And above all, Americans still believe that adultery is a sinful act.
