Different strokes for different folks. And it’s equally funny that such can also be said of the way husbands and wives cheat on their partners. Various countries have their own way of defining monogamy, marriage, adultery—and perhaps love.
For example, in Russia, infidelity is more of a social concern rather than moral problem. In a survey conducted in 1998, more than 35 percent of them believes that philandering is not or seldom a mistake. In fact, psychologists in Moscow believed that it’s inevitable, even right at your own household. Perhaps you can blame it on their high rates for apartments that in-laws tend to live under one roof. Nevertheless, we need to give a hand for Russian men and women who are more likely to admit their cheating ways than other countries.
Japan, famous for their geishas and hostess bars, has a different viewpoint when it comes to monogamy. Their belief revolves on the philosophy that there’s more to marriage than sex. The wife, for instance, after giving birth will move into and sleep in the nursery room. She wouldn’t go back to the couple’s bedroom not until after six years. With a sexless marriage, it’s not surprising that majority of Japanese men can be found in bars and in the loving arms of geishas. Sex is easy, considering that love hotels abound and per-hour rates are cheap.
Husbands and wives would love discreet extramarital relationships. It’s better that none of them knew about it, or else, you could be accused of breaking adultery rule: never tell your husband or wife about it.
Money can also play a vital role in illicit affairs. They are powerful means of compensating for the emotional pain inflicted on the husband or the wife, more so when the relationship is discovered. Normally, a cheating husband will shower his wife with different expensive gifts such as fur coats. She can even enjoy a nice vacation in Turkey.
Unlike Americans, who flaunt their extramarital affairs as if it’s already a given in their society, French people would rather keep everything under wraps. They would prefer to die and bring their ugly secrets to their graves than be caught or even accused of cheating on their spouses. Generally, this group, who is known for their flamboyant ways of showing affection, advocates monogamy. But because they also uphold to the belief that one’s private space should never be trespassed even by the wife, French men don’t tend to suffer any guilt. Their extramarital affairs will never bother their conscience. After all, nobody will ever get to learn such facts.
