Serious Health Risks Brought By Infidelity

Countless studies show that infidelity manifests similar patterns and prevalence across cultures. Although there are growing awareness on the devastating effects of infidelity not only to spouses, but most unfortunately, to children, it still continues to victimize even those living a happy family life. The growing concerns and awareness are now calling for more sophisticated schemes to catch a cheating spouse.

With the advent of the information superhighway, it seems that along with it, infidelity has taken on a new form, leaving moralists with the question “What counts as cheating?” Certainly, flirting online has contributed to the growth of this plague as technological advancements such as online and mobile technology have somehow made it possible to make contact with other people more instantaneously. People can now readily express their thoughts and send them across in a lot of ways without much inhibition. Cheaters can now easily hide their emotional affairs through these mobile technologies without fear of being caught as they are not engaged in any physical contact.

Though this may be the case today, still, a lot of cheaters are apparently engaged in sexual affairs which are causing greater risks than online affairs. In a recent study, it has been found out that women with cheating husbands are at risk of contracting HIV. In fact, a cheating husband is the single greatest HIV risk for women around the world. Sad but true. Men who leave their homes for a job far away for a long time tend to stray away and engage in unsafe extra-marital sex which can lead to HIV infections. Examples of these are seamen who spend nine months at sea away from their spouses. They are prone to have contact with sex workers in countries where they dock for several days.

It’s a sad fact that a lot of men not only bring emotional troubles to their spouses, they also bring great health risks. Not that I think it’s ok to have sexual relations with other women when men are away as long as they practice safe sex. Still, avoiding infidelity altogether is the best way there is to maintain a worry-free, happy, and healthy relationship. Just keep the fire burning between you and your spouse.
